Now perhaps you are saying the speedometer is going so fast it looks like a rev gauge ;-)
andy28277 on August 27, 2008 at 4:38 am
Turbochargers are engine driven air compressors (exhaust driven to be exact) and provide varying levels of boost according to engine rpm, load etc. Quite often there is a power band within a given range of available boost pressure and it is an aid to performance driving to be aware of when that power band is being approached, in the same way a driver wants to be aware of engine rpm.

The tachometer (revolutions per minute - RPMs), or as you put it as the "rev gauge" is on the left and turbo boost gauge (which says "turbo" below it) is on the right. A boost gauge is a pressure gauge that indicates turbocharger pressure.

haha you sure thats not the rev gauge!!

I have a remapped 9-3 with some bits at 260bhp and boost is indeed extremely addictive, the only way is up from here... oh dear :)

Saabs are mad, have a 9-5 and the boost is like nicotine. But we are well due a new model it feels like an antique compared with an Jag XF

'04 and above is very reliable, though I'm not big on the '06 facelift. Pre-'04 you should have all service records with full synthetic oil changes as sludge is a concern, but you can easily solve that issue by updating to the PCV#6 for about $200 and dropping the sump. The Aero has a stronger turbo that will not fail on you, unlike the non-Aero 9-5's. Otherwise, wear and tear parts are expensive as BMW and Benz, but Saab is an easy DIY car with inexpensive after market parts all over the web. |
